Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Sharp BP-50C55 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a department or production cell of 40-80 people printing 12,000-25,000 pages a month with steady A3 color volume.
  • You need 55 ppm in both black and color and first copy out under 4 seconds B/W from the platen.
  • You scan and copy heavy two-sided stacks daily — 100-sheet RSPF at 80 ipm with original size detection.
  • You want the 6,300-sheet max capacity to keep paper-out events out of the workflow.
  • You're standardized on Sharp's Cloud Connect for scan-to-Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Box, Dropbox, Google Drive.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 25,000-30,000 pages a month — the engine handles it, just plan toner and drum replacement cadence accordingly.
  • You want PostScript 3 for production color workflows — MX-PK13L kit, optional.
  • You need fax — BP-FX11 kit, optional.
  • You want Wi-Fi — BP-EB10 adapter, optional.
  • You want saddle-stitch booklet output — BP-FN14 or BP-FN16 finishers cover it.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print under 8,000 pages a month — overbuying. The BP-50C36 or 50C45 will fit better.
  • You print over 35,000 pages a month — go to the BP-70C65 in the Advanced series, or look at production-class hardware.
  • You need single-pass duplex scanning at 240 ipm — the RSPF is reversing, max 80 ipm.
  • You want 1200 x 1200 dpi color output — this caps at 600 x 600 color (1200 mono).
  • You only print mono — buy the BP-50M55 and save the color toner cost.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Sharp BP-50C55 is the 55-ppm option in the BP-50 Essentials A3 color family, aimed at mid-to-high volume departments and production cells where the BP-50C45 runs out of headroom but the BP-70 Advanced series is overspec. Print speed is 55 pages per minute in both black and color at 1200 x 1200 dpi mono / 600 x 600 dpi color, with first copy out at 3.7 seconds B/W and 4.8 seconds color from the platen — the fastest first-copy times in the BP-50 family. Standard paper capacity is 650 sheets (one 550-sheet drawer plus 100-sheet bypass), expandable to 6,300 sheets with split tandem drawers and the BP-LC10 large capacity cassette. The 100-sheet RSPF scans at 80 ipm with original size detection. The 10.1-inch tilting touchscreen handles direct print from Office files, scan-to-cloud, and Synappx Go mobile workflows. Finishing options include staple, hole punch, saddle stitch, and the BP-FD10 inner folding unit for tri-fold and z-fold. The thing buyers regret: same as the rest of the line — fax, PostScript, Wi-Fi, OCR, and Compact PDF are option kits, not standard. Best fit: a department of 40-80 printing 12,000-25,000 pages a month with steady A3 color volume.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 2 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging Sharp machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "This printer is a game-changer for our office. The 55 ppm speed keeps up with our high-volume jobs, and being able to swap toner mid-run saves us so much time."
  • "Really solid machine overall. The speed is impressive and the non-stop operation is convenient, though setup took longer than expected."

Yes, the Sharp BP-50C55 ships with a starter toner cartridge. The starter toner yields approximately 40,000 pages for black and 24,000 pages for each color (cyan, magenta, yellow) at 5% coverage. The Sharp BP-50C55 is designed for mid-to-high volume departments, printing at 55 ppm in both black and color, while the BP-70C31 is a floor-standing model for smaller workgroups, printing at 31 ppm. The BP-50C55 has faster first-copy times (3.7 seconds B/W, 4.8 seconds color) and a higher standard paper capacity (650 sheets vs. 650 sheets, but expandable to 6,300 sheets for both). The BP-70C31 includes standard PCL 6, Adobe PostScript 3, and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, which are optional on the BP-50C55. For small offices with lower volume needs, the BP-70C31 may be a more cost-effective choice.

However, its high volume capabilities may exceed the needs of very small businesses.
