  • You're replacing an HD Pro 1 + standalone scanner — the HD Pro 2 MFP unifies the workflow and adds the gen-2 scanner.
  • You can live with the printer's 4.3-inch touchscreen plus a separate scanner control — the scanner has its own touch UI.
  • You don't currently scan thick rigid originals daily — the straight-through path is there if you need it; standard CIS scanners can't do this.

Skip this if...

  • You only need print, no scan/copy — don't pay for the MFP. The T1700 / T1700DR PS is the print-only equivalent.
  • You only need 36-inch output — this is 44-inch. The T2600 (36-inch MFP) is right.
  • You scan only thin paper originals — a CIS-based MFP like the T2600 scans technical drawings just as well at lower cost.
  • You don't have the floor space — measure carefully; this is a long wide-format MFP plus a separate scanner unit.

The HP DesignJet HD Pro MFP (44-in) is HP's flagship wide-format CAD/GIS/reprographics multifunction — a bundle of a 44-inch dual-roll T1700-class PostScript printer base and an HP HD Pro 2 44-in CCD scanner with a 5-camera system, built for large architecture, engineering, GIS, and reprographics shops (15-75 seats). It prints A1/D pages in 21 seconds (mechanical), around 116 A1 prints per hour, at up to 2400 x 1200 optimized dpi using HP Thermal Inkjet and the HP 730 ink cartridge family. The scanner is the differentiator: 1200 dpi optical, 9600 dpi enhanced, capable of scanning rigid originals up to 15 mm (0.6 in) thick through a straight-through paper path with adjustable pressure for very thin media. Scan throughput is up to 13 inches (33 cm) per second in either color or monochrome, with scan destinations to email, network folder, USB, printer HDD, or FTP. Connectivity is Gigabit Ethernet (1000Base-T), USB 3.1 gen 1 on the scanner, plus Hi-Speed USB 2.0 on the printer. Acoustic floor is 48 dB(A) operating, under 22 dB(A) idle. Security includes HP Sure Start BIOS self-heal, intrusion detection, IPSec, and 802.1X (printer base). The thing buyers regret: ordering the HD Pro for offices that scan only thin paper.
