Is this the right printer for you?

Who the HP Envy Inspire 7255e AIO Printer is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You're a home office or family printing 50-300 pages a month — letters, school work, color photos, shipping labels.
  • You print photos at home (4x6, 5x7, 8x10) and want a dedicated photo tray to avoid paper swaps.
  • You scan 1-3 multi-page documents a week — the 35-sheet ADF handles contracts, IDs, intake forms.
  • You enroll in HP+ at setup — 6 mo Instant Ink, bonus year of warranty, Smart Tasks cloud automations.
  • You're OK with Original HP ink for the life of the printer (HP+ requirement).
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print up to 500 pages/mo — 225-sheet input means more reloads but the chassis handles it.
  • You skip HP+ — you can, you just lose the freebies.
  • You print occasional legal — works from main tray; photo tray is letter/photo only.
  • You don't need fax — none on this chassis (OfficeJet Pro line for fax).
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print 500+ pages/month for a business — wrong tier; OfficeJet Pro 8125e/9125e.
  • You want third-party ink — HP+ blocks non-HP cartridges; pick a non-+ model.
  • You need Ethernet — wireless only on Envy.
  • You need fax or scan-to-SMB or PCL/PostScript — OfficeJet Pro features, not Envy.
  • You print legal/11x17 volume — wrong chassis.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The HP Envy Inspire 7255e All-in-One Printer (1W2Y9A) is the same Envy Inspire 7900e chassis as the 7955e in a different regional/colorway SKU — color inkjet AIO with a dedicated photo tray for home and family use. It prints 15 ppm black and 10 ppm color (ISO), scans through a 35-sheet single-pass ADF, and uses a 2.7-inch color touchscreen on the bezel. The 225-sheet input tray plus 60-sheet photo tray covers a couple of weeks of home use; recommended monthly volume is up to 1,000 pages. Wireless is dual-band 802.11ac with self-healing Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, BLE, and Apple AirPrint/Mopria. HP+ enrollment at setup gives yous 6 months of Instant Ink, a bonus year of warranty, and HP Smart Tasks (one-click scan-to-Drive/OneDrive/email). The reason you buy this: the photo tray means you don't swap paper to print a 4x6 of the kid's birthday party. The thing buyers regret: enrolling in HP+ then trying off-brand ink — the firmware blocks non-HP cartridges. If you want ink freedom, get a non-+ Envy. No fax, no Ethernet, no PCL/PostScript on this chassis. Comes with setup HP 67 cartridges, power cord, setup poster, and reference guide.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 3 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging HP machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "Needed a reliable all-in-one for my small home office and this thing has been solid for about a year now. The wireless setup was painless and the mobile printing actually works well. Paper tray could be bigger but for the price point it's hard to complain."
  • "Been using it to scan documents for my business and print client materials. It does the job without issues, though the scanning speed is just average. Ink cartridges are pricey which is typical for HP but adds up over time."
  • "My daughter uses this for school projects and I use it for work from home. The copy quality is decent and it handles different paper sizes without fussing. Connectivity through the app has been reliable so far."
